Platteklip Gorge
Platteklip Gorge, directly translated to ‘flat rock gorge’, is by far the most popular route to summit Table Mountain. It is the most direct route to the top and makes use of a staircase-like path that shoots directly up the face of the mountain. The ascent begins from the lower Cable Way station and to the contour path. The route follows the contour for a bit with beautiful views of the city below. Once we reach Platteklip Gorge we start really ascending the mountain. We summit on the western table after a steep climb with amazing views of the city and ocean - rewarding us for the morning’s ascent. After exploring the top, we finish the morning with a comfortable ride down on the Cableway.
This route is best suited for those who want to summit the mountain but have a fear of heights or are hesitant about their technical abilities – or perhaps only have a half day in their itinerary to accomplish a Table Mountain summit.
